using hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid to break the deadlock?
I have a rusty bolt on the bottom of my sink faucet. I tried to loosen plumbing tool and a lot of WD40 but not moving. I wonder if I paint hydrochloric or sulfuric acid in the lock, this might help loosen? I read an answer about these acids to be careful mixing them with water, so I wonder if I can thicken acids, making a paste cornstarch and water. I'm going to heat the mixture of cornstarch and water until thic is real, let cool, then add the acid after. Then we will paint on the bolt until oxide and metal dissolves enough to loosen it. I am putting in a new faucet, so I do not care if it ruins any of the metals. I just need to get apart, without breaking my pedastal sink. "These acids damage the porcelain sink? If I mix my solution of corn starch and acid, should I follow the pattern of response that I read the poor acid slowly, stirring as the water can make the hot mix?
For starters, the hydrochloric acid is very dangerous, especially if found in high concentrations. By adding acid to water an exothermic reaction occurs and is heated to high temperatures, hotter than a human being can endure. So before the acid mixture with corn starch, which react with the acidity, think again! Second, if you waited until the acid to dissolve the bolt, which would be waiting a long time, not like the movies where it pours and dissolves before your eyes. It would take long for the lock to dissolve. We recommend using the approach of physical and pour boiling water over the stud that will expand. Allow to cool after have done with a pot of water, about 10 minutes, then repeat the process. This should loosen the screw and then use WD40 and a plumbing tool, you must do the work!
