Glass Dessert And Cake Stands – Elegant Options For Weddings And Dessert Displays

A dessert table is often considered to be the most important component of any event and part of the reason is the beautiful display of delicious treats. Aesthetics matter in food presentation and an elegant stand is essential. Glass pedestal cake and dessert plates are quickly becoming a more popular method for displaying everything from cupcakes to wedding cakes. By using a variety of stands in different sizes (or even colors) you can create a beautiful display with minimal effort and be rewarded with a wonderful collection of fine tableware that will last for years to come.

Try thinking outside the box this year for any formal occasion (weddings, corporate gatherings, family reunions) when choosing a dessert display. The new trend has been small treats (such as cupcakes or pastries) instead of formal cakes that are presented on a series of tiered cake stands. This is an elegant way to provide easy access to all the options for your guests and add height to your dessert table. Forget flat trays this year – get creative and add some color and new designs to enhance your delectable treats.

Cake (or dessert) stands are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. The most traditional cake stand measures 9-10 inches in diameter and is a round plate on a pedestal (usually 3-5 inches tall). A dessert stand can be larger or smaller however and does not necessarily need to be round (even if your dessert is). A bright color is a great way to draw even more attention to your dessert display such as a vibrant Ruby Red or an intense Cobalt Blue. Depending on the event, tableware can be used to enhance a color theme that exists throughout the entire room. It is completely up to you!

Building a fine tableware collection is a worthwhile pursuit because it will last for years and many pieces can be used in a variety of different ways. A beautiful cake plate can also be used to display a delicious pie or hold breakfast pastries. Many cake plates even have optional domes to protect desserts from dust or accidental touching. Remember that glass can break when it is not properly stored or is transferred from extreme hot to cold (or vice versa). Not all glassware is dishwasher or microwave safe so make sure to check if you are unsure.

LookInTheAttic & Company offers a great selection of beautiful cake and dessert stands ranging in a wide variety of colors and sizes.

Slightly long and HARD chemistry lab questions-- determine the mystery white powders?

The lab gives you 8 white powders [Ca(OH)2, KI, CaCO3, NaHCO3, Na2SO4, NaCl, Pb(C2H3O2)2 and BaCl2, given in no particular order]. Using water, fire, test tubes, pH indicators, well plates as well as one reagent of your choice and other "common" lab items you have to determine the identity of all the substances. My plan is to test the solubility to eliminate CaCO3 and then measure the pH of all the salts. Ca(OH) can be eliminated since it will have the highest pH. The other basic salts can be determined using a flame test (KI will have purple flame when seen through cobalt glass and NaHCO3 will have yellow flame). The other salts should be almost neutral; BaCl2 will burn yellow-green and the Pb salt will burn blue. Both Na salts will burn yellow but by using Ba(OH)2 as the reagent you can determine the identity of NaCl and Na2SO4 (NaCl will not react with the base, but Na2SO4 will). Does anyone have a more certain methold to accomplish this same task?? THANKS!!

Solubility 1st. CaCO3 insoluble
Ca(OH)2 slightly soluble = alkaline pH
All others are soluble.
KI gives yellow brown soln (iodine) on addition of dil. acid with any oxidiser e.g. copper sulfate soln, peroxide, hypochlorite, bromate etc.
NaHCO3 mid alkaline pH - will fizz if add dil. acid.
Na2SO4 white precipitate with PbNO3 or BaCl2
NaCl white precip. with AgNO3
Pb(C2H3O2)2 white precip with Na2SO4 (or any sulfate)
BaCl2 also white precip with any sulfate.
Divide your solutions into test tubes to carry out above tests.
